The Gorge
What is the Gorge, why did I stop working on it and what is next?
During the height of working on my all-ages magazine The Spark. Which sadly is no longer alive. I was producing my comics set in the same universe. The first comics of Shadows and Warlord you can now purchase here.
During such time I started to also work on a longer-form comic which some would call a Graphic Novel and I even roped in the amazing artist Charles Raymond.
Sadly during the time of shutting down Fair Spark Books, my passion for the project wavered and as such I stopped working on it.
Now that I am starting to create and release comic scripts in this sub stack with the aim of making my writing better and getting feedback from you all on my pacing, I thought I would start off by posting below where we had got to with this project before I start to work on the script once again.
Book Synopsis
The Gorge follows the story of a cleaner on the outskirts of The Warlord’s vast city 'Torleburton'. His job is to keep The Gorge clean, a location where muscled goons meet from all over the planet to show their worth to join The warlord’s army ranks. Tested in pure combat and ultimate skill tests where there can only ever be one winner.
Unfortunately while cleaning during an event he accidentally gets fragged into the arena by a rogue grenade and by The Gorge's ruthless rules, now has to take part and fight to the last remaining man. 'He who enters the arena must fight or die’.
The cleaner will through sheer luck manage to make it through all the events and end with him becoming the winner. Unfortunately, the twist at the end is that the cleaner is transported to another arena on another planet where basic training starts within the Army. Setting up the events that take place in book 2.
The first 7 Pages
Here is a link to the first 7 pages of the script which I sent over to Charles as a way to entice him onto the project.
In response, Charles did some amazing artwork exploring some concept artwork.
I am really excited to get this script done and would love your feedback when it arrives in your inbox via this substack. So if you are not subscribed, please make sure you do not. Its totally FREE.
